The Overseas Citizenship of Bharat (OCI) scheme is operational from December ii, 2005.

A)Who is eligible to apply for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Bill of fare?

(i) Who was a citizen of India on or at whatsoever time after January 26, 1950; or

(ii) Who was eligible to go citizen of Bharat on January 26, 1950; or

(iii) Who belonged to a territory that became part of Bharat after August 15, 1947; and

(iv) Who is a kid or a 1000-child or a slap-up grandchild of such a denizen mentioned in a higher place; and

(v) A person who is a minor child and whose both parents are citizens of India or ane of the parents is a citizen of India; and

(vi) Spouse of strange origin of a denizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an Overseas Citizen of India cardholder and whose wedlock has been registered and subsisted for a continuous menses of not less than 2 years immediately preceding the presentation of the application. Withal it is to exist noted that such spouse shall exist subjected to prior security clearance from a competent authorisation in India.

B)Who is not eligible?

• Whatever foreign national who has earlier been a denizen of Pakistan or People's republic of bangladesh.

(C) Cancellation of OCI Registration - Registration as OCI may be cancelled if it is satisfied that : -

(i)  The registration as an Overseas Citizen of India cardholder was obtained by means of fraud, false representation or concealment of any material fact; or

(ii) The Overseas Citizen of Bharat cardholder has shown disaffection towards the Constitution of India; or

(iii) The Overseas Denizen of Bharat cardholder has, during any state of war in which India may be engaged, unlawfully traded or communicated with an enemy or been engaged in, or associated with, whatsoever  business organization, or commercial activeness that was to his noesis carried on in such manner every bit to assist an enemy in that war; or

(iv) The Overseas Denizen of India cardholder has, inside five years after registration been sentenced to imprisonment for a term of not less than two years; or

(five) It is necessary to do so in the interests of the sovereignty and integrity of Republic of india, the security of India, friendly relations of India with any foreign country, or in the interests of the general public; or

(vi) The matrimony of an Overseas Citizen of Republic of india cardholder has been dissolved past a competent court of constabulary or otherwise OR has not been dissolved but, during the subsistence of such matrimony, he has solemnized marriage with any other person.

D)Privileges  - Persons registered as OCI enjoy:

 (i)  A multiple entry, multi-purpose life-long visa for visiting Republic of india.

(ii) Exemption from registration with local police force authority for any length of stay in Bharat.

(iii) Parity with Non-resident Indians (NRIs) in respect of economical, financial and educational fields, except in relation to acquisition of agricultural or plantation properties.

(4) Any other benefits to OCIs will be notified by the Ministry building of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) under Section 7B(1) of the Citizenship Deed, 1955.

Persons registered as overseas citizen of Bharat under Section 7A of the Citizenship Act, 1955, shall exist entitled to:

(a) Parity with not-resident Indian in respect of:

one. Entry fees to be charged for visiting the national monuments, historical sites and museums in Bharat;

2. Pursuing the following professions in India, in pursuance of the provisions contained in the relevant Acts, namely: Doctors, dentists, nurses and pharmacists; Advocates; Architects; and Chartered Accountants.

(b) Appear for the All India Pre-Medical Exam or such other tests to make them eligible for admission in pursuance of the provisions contained in the relevant Acts.

E)Restrictions  - P ersons registered as OCI:

(i)   Do not savor equality of opportunity in matters of public employment;

(ii)  Do not relish any voting rights;

(iii) Cannot contest selections to Lok Sabha/Rajya Sabha/Legislative Assembly/Council;

(four) Cannot hold Constitutional posts such as that of President, Vice President, Judge of Supreme Court/High Courtroom and cannot be appointed to public services and posts in connexion with affairs of the Union or of any State etc.

F) Renunciation of Overseas Citizen of Republic of india Card –

(i) A person shall cease to be an Overseas Citizen of Bharat cardholder past making a announcement renouncing the Overseas Citizen of India card and same will be registered past Central Government.

(2) The spouse of foreign origin and every small-scale child of that person, as to a higher place, holding the Overseas Citizen of India Card shall thereupon cease to be an Overseas Citizen of India cardholder.

You must paste Two PHOTOGRAPHS of 2 inches x 2 inches [51 mm x 51 mm] IN Colour FOR EACH APPLICANT on the space provided in Part A. Practice NOT STAPLE the photographs. Attach third photo in an envelope with proper name written on the back of photo. [Photograph should be sufficiently brilliant color with frontal view of total confront against a low-cal background with both ears and shoulders clearly visible]

(3) Photocopy of the first page, photo page, last folio and other pages having whatever observations of valid/cancelled Indian passport of self/parents/grand parents OR copy of Surrender Certificate of Indian passport of self/parents or grandparents.

NOTE

: OCI APPLICANTS ARE REQUESTED TO SURRENDER THEIR INDIAN PASSPORTS AND SUBMIT COPY OF Surrender CERTIFICATE ALONGWITH THEIR OCI APPLICATIONS. In case applicant ever held Indian passport and is not able to surrender it for whatsoever reason (loss/misplacement/submission to some Office), a duly notarised affirmation should be provided to that issue forth with the awarding for OCI.  This would not, however, constitute a document supporting the merits of Indian origin condition; independent documents indicated herein are required for this.   Photocopy of one or more of the following documents:

a)  Indian Educational certificate issued by educational boards/universities.

b)  Indian Holding documents attested by a acquirement officer not below the rank of Tahsildar.

c)  Indian Photograph Voter I D

d) Indian Ration card with photo

For security reasons, OCI applications are accepted just from the applicants concerned and non through third political party. Either of the parents can submit the OCI awarding on behalf of the pocket-sized children. Advent of small-scale children is not mandatory.
